Research Interests

Dr. Hertel is a forester and an entomologist whose primary research interest includes the health and wise management of the Eastern Arc Mountain (http://www.easternarc.org) forests of Kenya and Tanzania with special interests in African violet habitats. His current research project involves the condition and health of the Eastern Arcs. Potential areas of student research include field-oriented studies to monitor the health of natural areas and parks in Chester County, PA as well as urban tree health monitoring in Chester County.
