This website is one component of a joint project involving West Chester
University, the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia and Chester
County Water Resources Authority. Small, privately owned man-made ponds
are an increasingly common part of the Southeastern Pennsylvania landscape.
We provide here guidelines for understanding and managing these resources.

A pond can be the focal point of a landscape (left) or
an eyesore (right) |

The information on this website is divided
into five sections. To read about some of the problems that pondowners
in our region face, please visit the Pond Problems
page. We have also prepared an online Pond management
guide,
which is further divided into separate sections for Plants and Algae, Canada
Geese, Sedimentation, and Poor Fishing. A list of some helpful contacts
for pond products and services as well as government agencies is provided
on the Pond info links page. Two large documents,
one on small pond management and one on the limnology of small ponds, may
be viewed or downloaded from the Project Summary
page. Your questions, comments and experiences with pond management are
all welcome, please visit the Contact us page.
Finally, if you are a pondowner in Chester County, we would appreciate
it if you would take a few minutes to fill out a short pond questionnaire,
also found on the Contact us page.
